A NEW TYPE OF ANIMAL STEREOTAXIC APPARATUS

Abstract
A new type of animal stereotaxic apparatus which was devised in 1959 has been studied on animal experimentation and been found to permit the excellent versatility.
The apparatus (Fig. II & 1) consists essentially of two parts : Fixing Frame (F) and Measuring Slide (S). They are connected each other at Frame Column (FC) and placed in position on the table, The Frame consists of head (FH) and arms (FA). There are fifteen holes in each side of the frame permitting various type of Bars (B). They are namely Ear Bar (EB), Orbital Bar (OB), Mandibular Bar (MB), Nuchal Bar (NB) and several Vertebral Bars (VB). The Measuring Slide (S) consists of Transverse Slide (TS), Longitudinal Slide (LS), Vertical Slide (VS), . Electrode Carrier (EC), Electrode Carrier Controller (ECC), and Electrode Direction Controller (EDC).
Under the light general anesthesia, the head of the animal is so placed in between the arms of fixing frame (F) that both ear canals can be fixed by means of plugging ear bars from each side. Inferior orbital ridge and mandible are then fixed with Orbital and Mandibular Bars (OB & MB). Animal¢¥s back bones, are fixed with Vertebral Bars from each side. The tip of the Electrode attached to the Electrode Carrier (EC) is so arranged that it may point the center of the Ear Bar (EB) - the cross- zero line of two reference planes: horizontal reference plane and frontal reference plane. At this position the scales of both Longitudinal and Vertical Slides (LS & VS) indicate their zero graduation respectively. Transverse movement of the tip of the electrode can be arranged dy means of shifting the Transverse Slide. (TS). An electrode are inserted into the brain by means of manipulating Vertical slide (VS). Direction of the inserting electrode is controlled by the Electrode Direction Controller (EDC).
